Ferdinand Knecht (1991) is a trained cabinet maker, young architect and researcher based in Berlin. He develops conceptual architectural projects with a social, environmental, and political impact.
After training as a cabinet maker, he studied architecture in Münster and Weimar. During his studies, he worked for Brandlhuber+Muck Petzet Architekten in Berlin as well as for 2038, the German Pavilion at the 17th Architecture Biennale in Venice.
Ferdinand is co-editor of the 15th edition of horizonte, co-author of the 2nd edition of the ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) Biennale Stories, and founder of frntr_arc an archive for furniture design that is between the extra ordinary and the extraordinary.
Since 2022 he continues working for Muck Petzet Architekten in Berlin and since 2023 he is also part of ReduceReuseRecycleArchitecture, an international architecture platform and network. Additionally, he is involved in the an.ders Urania initiative, which campaigns against demolition policies and advocates for the preservation and adaptive reuse of existing buildings. Furthermore, since 2024, he has been collaborating with Avital Greenshpon under the name 31636.
Ferdinand is a registered architect with the chamber of architects in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
